ConchFan

Studio Class Project
Hand-Held Fan

In this project we were tasked to design a hand-held (non electrical) fan. It had to incorporate at least one attribute similar to the electrical fan we designed. I chose to design a fan that changes it's size

At first, I did not want to incorporate origami into my fan because it was to obvious that I would go there, but I found an interesting pattern in Paul Jackson's book that immediately caught my eye. I changed it quite a bit  until I got the shape that I wanted.

After that, I turned to design the handle, I wanted that it would be a prominent feature but that it would not overtake the fan itself and that they would compliment each other. I wanted to

achieve a fluent and natural aesthetic.

the fan is made out of elephant hide paper sandwiched between kozo paper. the handle is made of brass sandwiched between laminated wood,

By the way, if you want, you can buy one. just contact me through my e-mail
